Great news for nature lovers heading to Yorkshire, Sheffield has been announced the ‘greenest’ city in the region, winning four Green Flag awards.
The city currently has 18 Green flag areas, which are the national standard for ‘Green’ quality, and now has a further four. These were awarded to Manor Fields, Millhouses Park, Wyming Brook and Charnock Recreation Ground.
The total of 22 awards means that Sheffield is now the greenest city in the area, and one of the greenest cities in the country.
To win a Green flag award from the Keep Britain Tidy group, an area needs to be welcoming and well maintained, which can be done by local communities, councils or organisations.
Nearby Rotherham has also been given an extra green flag, bringing their total to five.
If you would like to visit the region’s greenest city then there are plenty of Yorkshire attractions in and around the area for you to visit with your Yorkshire Pass including A&G Passenger boats and the Magna Science adventure centre.
