
York’s flagship tourist information centre has had a successful first year and the city’s tourism bosses are said to be very pleased.
The state of the art centre opened in York back in May 2010 replacing the previous more traditional centre and has seen nearly 400,000 visitors from around the world visit.
This is a 60% increase from the previous year. The old centre had 240,000 visitors in its final year, but the new centre has had around 160,000 more than that.
The tourism bosses are pleased as they had set themselves an ambitious target of 40% more visitors and are delighted with the 60% rise.
The tourist information centre offers information using the latest technology on York attractions and events and helps visitors to the city and area make the most of their stay , in turn helping the economy.
