York has been named Britain’s best small city or town according to a poll of just under 1,500 people. The survey was conducted by publishers of the popular Rough Guides travel series and included over 200 towns and cities in Britain.
The city of York came out on top over other popular tourist destinations such as St Ives, Brighton and Bath who were also highly rated in the results. York wasn’t the only Yorkshire destination appearing in the top 10 though: Whitby came 7th making Yorkshire the only county to have more than one destination appear in the list.
Reasons given for the city topping the list include the fantastic architecture, rich history and the feel of the city.
