York Roman Festival

Guidebook, Discount Vouchers Book and PassThis year sees the return of the York Roman Festival, now in its 9th year, taking place on the weekend of the 18th of June.

The year of 2011 is important as it marks the 1800th anniversary of the death of Emperor Septimius Severus in the city of York. To mark this on the 18th a parade will take place through the city ending with a ceremony at the statue of Constantine.

The event will feature a living camp at Gray's Court, with the unusual sight of Romans and Celts living together peacefully, that’ll be showing traditional living conditions along with displays and talks on various subjects.

There will also be several fringe events taking place through out the city with many restaurants selling Roman themed food. Along these lines the Black Swan Inn will also be transformed into a spectacular gladiatorial arena for exciting displays of martial skill.

If you’re out and about on this weekend there are also many other York Attractions you can visit while in the city and Yorkshire Pass will allow you to get the most out of your stay!
