York St Mary’s is hosting an exciting new art event starting this May 28th and running through to October.
The event will be a fantastic glittering display comprise of over a thousand squashed and flattened silver objects that will be suspended in the nave of York St Mary’s.
The instillation named ‘Thirty Pieces of Silver’ is the seventh such to be hosted at the church from the Tate's collection and is a piece by the well known artist Cornelia Parker which shows her deep fascination with materials and the interactions with them.
The actual form of the piece is a collection of various silver coloured objects, spoons, candlesticks, teapots, trombones and so on, which have been crushed flat with a steamroller and then suspend in disc shaped groups by fine wires from the ceiling.
Although entry to York St Mary is free, there is nothing to stop you buying a Yorkshire Pass and visiting some of the other top York Attractions in the area.
