     Yorkshire Museum

Top Yorkshire attraction, the Yorkshire Museum, has bought a rare sapphire ring that was discovered by a metal detector enthusiast.

This spectacular piece of jewellery was purchased by the museum for £35,000 who now has plans to have experts come and look at the ring to establish more information about it and hopefully date the piece.

Little known is currently about the ring, but is currently thought to date as far back as the 7th Century.

The 2.5cm ring was found in 2009 by Michael Greenhorn and his metal detector near York. Michael belongs to the York and District Metal Detecting Club.

The Yorkshire museum is one of the many great Yorkshire and York attractions you can visit for free with your Yorkshire pass. Make sure you pay a visit to the museum to see the Sapphire ring when it goes on display.
