The Olympic Torch will be staying in York overnight on the 19th June in 2012 whilst visiting North Yorkshire as part of its 70 day tour of the UK in the lead up to the Olympics.
The journey will start in Lands Ends where it will travel around the country before ending up at the Olympic Stadium in London. The torch will spend a total of six days in the Yorkshire and Humber regions.
The City of York Council Chief Executive Kersten England has been quoted as feeling honoured and feels that York will make a great backdrop with its rivers, York Minster and the City Walls.
Obviously this event is next year, but those travelling to the area visiting York Attractions with their Yorkshire Passes around the time can watch this very significant event.
