This year the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) is celebrating the175th anniversary in style with a spring steam gala.
The gala will comprise of a diverse line up of engines and activities that portray the history of the line and railways in general. Engines included, range from the historic 44767 “George Stephenson”, which makes a glorious return to the railway, along with other classics such as the 71000 “Duke of Gloucester”
The gala will run over 10 days, from the 29th of April to the 8th of May. There should be 8 or 9 engines running each day, with a total of around 18 different locomotives being run in total.
Events over the 10 days include:
A normal line service between Pickering and Grosmont, with authentic stock trains.
Photographic run-bys of good trains, along with a possible outing for the breakdown train.
An evening out on the Esk Valley with the 71000.
Short distance rides on the ‘Rocket’ and the ‘Planet’.
The event also includes an art exhibition by Chris Ware on platform 2 at Pickering Station
This event provides a great reason for a day out around York and you can visit other similar York Attractions with your Yorkshire Pass.
