The Great Britain Travel Survey (GBTS) has revealed that the number of British holiday makers visiting Yorkshire has increased since last year.
The official figures from the GBTS show that the number of visitors in the first quarter of 2011 increased by 14%. Spending figures for the period are even more impressive with Brits spending £267m in the region, which is an increase of 25% compared to last year.
Future numbers look to increase if the region wins the bid to host the opening stages of the 2016 Tour de France. Officials are set to visit Yorkshire in October to make an assessment. The current bid would see the route include the Yorkshire Dales, York, Hull, Sheffield, Scarborough and Leeds which would surely provide a massive boost in those areas.
This is great news for Yorkshire and all the fantastic Yorkshire and York attractions with numbers for the summer season looking very positive. If you would like to visit the region and see all that it has to offer, why not purchase a Yorkshire Pass?
