Hundreds of swimmers took to the water in Wakefield, Yorkshire for the first ‘Jane Tomlinson Swim For All’ charity event.
The event was held at Pugneys Country Park and saw swimmers compete in a 500m, 1500m and 500m junior races to raise money for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal which was started by Mike Tomlinson to raise money for cancer charities in honour of his late wife who was a keen swimmer.
Mike competed himself but admits he is a terrible swimmer. He was joined in the water by Olympic athlete Tracey Morris and BBC presenter Tanya Arnold.
This great event has been billed as Yorkshire’s swimming festival and had a great family atmosphere with spectators cheering on and enjoying picnics and BBQs. The positive response has meant organisers have already started looking at holding the event again in 2012.
This is a great example of the charity events and festivals that are held around the Yorkshire region and at Yorkshire Attractions.
